When there is no time or budget to run a full-blown usability test, how do you identify and prioritize usability issues? This tutorial delves into a modified version of the cognitive walkthrough method, giving attendees a chance to experience the set-up and execution of this method.
Target Audience
This tutorial will be useful to usability/UCD practitioners, interface designers, information architects, technical communicators, and others eager to learn an alternate method to usability testing and heuristic evaluation. It is designed for those new to the field of user-centered design and usability as well as advanced practitioners who are already familiar with usability methods.
Tutorial Structure
This tutorial will provide user researchers with practical guidance and hands-on experience in the use of a modified version of the cognitive walkthrough method. This highly interactive tutorial will include lecture, discussion, and hands-on exercises.

About the Trainers
Mike Beasley
Usability Analyst, Pure Visibility
Michael Beasley is a usability analyst at Pure Visibility, where he continues his work to make things work better for users. He has designed websites and software user interfaces and conducted usability testing and heuristic evaluations. He is the current president of the Michigan chapter of the Usability Professionals' Association as well as an associate content editor for UX Magazine.
Mike got his masters' degree in Human-Computer Interaction from the School of Information at the University of Michigan.

Dave Mitropoulos-Rundus (DaveMR) is Director of User Experience at Perficient, Inc. He has designed user interfaces for hand-helds, kiosks, web sites, and production machines, and has conducted evaluations in the lab, on the web, in the field, and in the homes of consumers. Dave has managed groups to design the user experience for a broad range of products, improve usability, standardize user interfaces across products and product lines, and innovate new product and feature ideas. Dave is a frequent conference presenter and user interface design instructor, and authored a chapter in Design by People for People. He is an active member of ACM SIG-CHI, HFES, STC, and UPA. Dave has a master's degree in human factors psychology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
